# Proxy Research > Proxy Research is a rare disease drug repurposing company based in the United States. It uses AI, advanced in vitro models and Real World Data to find new treatments for rare diseases hidden in approved drugs around the world. Rather than starting from one disease, Proxy evaluates thousands of rare diseases, genetic drivers, therapeutic targets and approved medicines together, and selects the programs with the highest probability of reaching regulatory approval. Proxy's approach spans five stages, each addressing a known failure mode in rare disease development: targeting (start from the causal genetics, not the diagnosis), selection (match the right drug to the right target in the right patients using Real World Data), approval (prioritize targets with an Open Targets score of 0.4 and above, which are approved roughly seven times as often), safety (test in patient-derived organoids and human microtissues before animals or patients), and commercial (reformulate for children rather than rely on off-label generics).
